  • From 0 to 1 million - Pearl Bacchus Success Story
    .

Pearl Bacchus was just another victim of massive layoffs during the regression in our economy. Before losing her job, Pearl was in the aviation business for 12 years. She loved her job and was an expert in the field but there was nothing she could do to get her job back. Pearl did not panic as she received other offers in the marketing field. She declined other job offers, because she was thinking of a plan to get back into the aviation business.

Finally, Pearl came up with an idea to start her own business dealing with aviation and that is when she sought out the free KUSBDC consulting services and learning programs from Bud Batcher and Alex Whan. After performing a lot of research, she found a niche market in Chester County. Chester County is one of the wealthiest areas in the United States, and residents of that county have a high demand for traveling in private jets. Pearl realized that there are only a few competitors in the area offering private jet service. After that everything was history and Pearl started Executive Jet Solutions, Inc. She achieved her dream of being her own boss in the industry that she loves so much. (In the picture is Pearl Bacchus accepting her Progress Award from KUSBDC consultant, Bud Batcher at our recent Success Celebration.)

Should I Incorporate My Business? By Frank Farmer
    .

One of the most frequent questions I receive from "start up" and "existing" small business owners is whether they should incorporate their business or not? Many clients are concerned that their business activities may expose them to potential liability and put their personal assets at risk. My usual response is that from a legal standpoint, I can't think of one reason why incorporation would ever be bad for my clients. Although not a guarantee, incorporation will usually provide their assets with an extra layer of insulation from potential legal liability. Although operating a business using a corporate entity will never hurt them, I explain that it is more expensive to create/operate and there are more formalities for them to comply with.

As many people are aware, there are basically four types of business structures that one can select to operate their business; sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies (llc's) and corporations. Sole proprietorships (a single owner) and partnerships (two or more owners) are not separate legal entities. With sole proprietorships and partnerships the owner(s) of the business are the business.

Customer Service Is Not Customer Serve Us by Dan Goldberg
    .

All businesses need customers. Sometimes they're called clients or patients. Whatever term you use for the folks, or companies who keep the revenue flowing into your enterprise they all need one very important thing, care.

Years ago I insisted that the people who worked for my company know a basic philosophical tenet. One that the company was founded on and one that could not be strayed from, "People Before Profits" was something that was extremely important to me, and the basis of what we, as an organization stood for.

The customer came first, period. They were the ones who told others how well we treated them. They were the ones who would come back, time and time again to buy from us. They were the ones who helped us expand and who monitored our service. They were they ones who wore our products and premiums. They were the ones who paid our salaries, rents, utilities, and enabled us to buy more products to sell them. And without them there would be no business.
