12 Week Program: Business Skills for Success:

Executive Summary

Bilingual Seminar "Business Skills for Success for Latino Entrepreneurs"

The vision of this program is to target the growing Hispanic business community for enhanced entrepreneurial education. During the twelve-week seminar, the Kutztown University Latino Business resource Center utilizes an innovative blended learning model for education. Our model uses, in addition to class lessons, bilingual online business plan workshops, one-on-one bilingual business consultants and the interaction with business professionals and entrepreneurs. This educational model fortifies the learning capacity of the student and ensures greater entrepreneurial success. Click here to download program mind map.

The educational component of the program consist of twelve-weeks of intense learning; once a week, students will have two hours of classes and an extra hour of consulting. "Primer Paso FastTrac" of Kauffman Foundation is the core material used for this bilingual program. Additionally, KU SBDC instructors will customize extra materials for the classes based on the information gathered from participant surveys.

On our website, Hispanic entrepreneurs can reach bilingual business web pages and online workshops that help them to understand business in America. In this website, they can find any kind of information such as business plans, legal information, finances, demographics, licensing, patenting, international commerce, etc. The students have the advantage of receiving unlimited free consulting services from one or more business consultants of the Kutztown University Small Business development Center and Latino Business Resource Center. This helps in the development of business plans and to answer any questions regarding the establishment of a business. In addition, several bilingual and non-bilingual business owners and guest speakers are invited to participate in the classes and the program. We have lawyers, insurance agents, bankers and other speakers that attend and take part in delivering the course.

At the end of the 12 weeks students will graduate with certificates from Kutztown University's bilingual "Business Skills for Success for Latino Entrepreneurs" seminar and a business plan, in addition the students will have the opportunity to be recommended for a micro loan from National Penn Bank. The bank has created a new product for graduates of this seminar only. This new loan-product considers the business plan and the feasibility of the business concept as the cornerstone for the approval on the underwriting process and the loan itself, thus making it easier for graduates to access bank funding.
