"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers."  -M. Scott Peck

Helicopter Tech, Inc. Takes Flight with Direction from the KU SBDC

Pioneering the aviation parts and equipment industry since 1995, Helicopter Tech, Inc. (HTI), with President and CEO Rachel Carson, is no stranger to leading the pack.  This year HTI took the lead when awarded one of four primes for the Landing Gear Prime Vendor Contract by Hill Air Force Base, located in northern Utah.  And helping along the way was KU SBDC government procurement services consultant, Goerge Boehm.

Surviving In Challenging Economic Times
Special Edition Conference Call

Over the past six months you've heard a number of stories about how the downturn in the economy is starting to impact our small business clients.  In response to our clients need for information and planning during these times the KU SBDC is hosting a conference call for all of our clients to join us for an update on the current banking environment and practical tips about how to survive in an economic downturn.

David Dickson, Philadelphia Regional SBA District Director will be joining us for this conference call, as will, several commercial lenders and many of our SBDC consultants with expertise in government marketing, international marketing and business planning.

"It is during times like these that reconnecting with customers and former contacts can be especially helpful. With that in mind I wanted to share something that came across my desk last week from
the Kauffman Foundation, which has been one of our key stakeholders over the past decade." -Ernie Post, KU SBDC Director

The Kauffman Foundation commissioned a national poll concerning the general public's perceptions about the national economy, corporate ethics and the importance of small business. The following is a question from that poll:

Who do you have more faith and confidence in to guide the U. S. economy- CEOs, from Fortune 500 companies, owners of successful small business, or members of Congress?
--"Respondents selected the small business owners 56% of the time, the CEOs 14% and Congress 14%. With the upcoming elections less than three weeks away, I encourage each of our small business clients to get out and exercise your right to vote. After all, America's future depends on what happens to our small businesses." -Ernie Post

So mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM for a FREE conference call entitled, "Surviving In Challenging Economic Times." Click here to register for this free conference call.
